Beverage Photographer Melbourne — Hannah Caldwell

Hannah Caldwell is a Melbourne-based beverage and wine photographer creating bold, atmospheric imagery for premium spirit brands, hotel and hospitality groups, wineries and bars. Selected commissions include Bacardi Martini (Patrón at Common State), Brown Brothers Wines, Ritz-Carlton Melbourne (Cameo Bar), The Langham Melbourne, Hilton Little Queen Street, Royce Hotel, Valhalla Bar, Lui Bar Melbourne, Stokehouse St Kilda, Bacash and Yarra Yering.

The signature is considered directional light on glass and liquid, close attention to surface and pour, and refined controlled colour. The work moves between cinematic dark drama for hospitality and premium spirits and clean editorial light for brand and lifestyle briefs, depending on what the product needs.

Her beverage photography is created for advertising, editorial, packaging, menus and social, with a focus on striking composition, colour and the tactile, atmospheric quality light brings to glass and liquid.

Beverage Photography for Spirits, Wine and Hospitality

Wine, cocktails and spirits each ask the camera different questions. A wine bottle wants a clean read of label, glass and tone. A hero cocktail wants drama and atmosphere, the moment a pour holds before it settles. Spirits packaging wants surface and weight, the sense that the bottle has presence in the hand.

Recent campaign and editorial work includes the Patrón campaign at Common State for Bacardi Martini, cocktail and beverage photography for Cameo Bar at the Ritz-Carlton Melbourne, beverage imagery for The Langham Melbourne, Hilton Little Queen Street and Royce Hotel, refined cocktail work for Lui Bar and Valhalla Bar, and wine and bottle photography for Brown Brothers, Yarra Yering and Bacash.

Bold, Tactile, Atmospheric

Beverage photography lives in the relationship between light, glass and liquid. The work I’m known for is bold and atmospheric without ever feeling forced, tactile and precise without losing energy. Colour matters. Composition matters. The pour itself tends to be the story.

The approach shifts to suit the brief. For hospitality and spirits, the visual language runs darker and more cinematic, with directional light shaped around glass, ice and liquid, and rich controlled colour against considered surfaces. For editorial, lifestyle and brand work, the same discipline stays intact but the tone lifts, with clean natural or studio light, softer palettes and airier compositions. The craft under both is the same: considered light, refined colour, and material carrying the frame.

Whether photographing crafted cocktails, hero wine bottles, artisan coffee or premium spirits, my focus is on translating flavour, atmosphere and emotion into visual form. Each image is shaped by light, whether cinematic or clean, and the same sensibility that runs through my interior and still life work informs how I read a drink.

Working with Bars, Hotels and Spirit Brands

Beverage work usually comes through three kinds of brief: agency-led spirit campaigns, hotel and hospitality commissions, and direct winery and packaging projects. Each has a different rhythm, but the underlying approach is the same: read the product carefully, build light around it, and let the colour and surface do the work.

For spirit brands and agencies, the structure is shot-list driven with hero, support and lifestyle coverage, and post-production turnaround built to campaign deadlines. For hotels and bars, the beverage work integrates with interior and food photography across the broader brand, so the visual system stays coherent. For wineries and direct clients, the brief is usually simpler and more bottle-led, with attention to label accuracy, glass and tone.

Beverage Photography FAQ

What types of beverages do you photograph?

Wine, cocktails, spirits, craft beer, coffee and non-alcoholic drinks. Whether it is a hero bottle shot for a label or a full campaign for a cocktail bar, every brief gets the same attention to light, surface and composition.

Do you work with bars, restaurants and hospitality venues?

Yes, regularly. I shoot for Melbourne bars, restaurants, hotels and hospitality groups, on location at the venue or in the studio in St Kilda East depending on the brief.

Can you shoot both product and lifestyle beverage imagery?

Yes. Many clients need clean, label-accurate product shots for packaging or e-commerce alongside atmospheric lifestyle imagery for campaigns and social. Both are usually covered in a single shoot plan.

What is the typical turnaround for beverage photography?

Most beverage projects are delivered within one to two weeks of the shoot, depending on the scope of retouching. Liquid and glass work is detail-heavy, and post-production includes colour-accurate retouching and cleanup. Tighter campaign deadlines can be accommodated when agreed up front.

Where are you based, and do you travel for shoots?

The studio is in St Kilda East, Melbourne. I shoot on location across Melbourne and regional Victoria, with travel further afield available on request.

Do you offer studio or on-location work?

Both. Bottle and packaging work usually suits the studio, where light can be fully controlled. Cocktail and venue photography often works best on location. For venue work I typically shoot during closed hours to control the environment.

A Final Note

Beverage photography is bold work that lives or dies on the detail. A bottle on a table or a cocktail in a moment of light can do more for a brand than a longer narrative ever could. The discipline is striking composition, technical care and an eye for the surface a drink shares with its surroundings.
